Wrong Perception About Pakistan

I am fortunate to have friends worldwide who provide me with direct and indirect feedback about us Pakistanis. Understanding Pakistan can be challenging if you haven’t visited. However, those who have had the opportunity to visit and interact with the locals have countless enchanting stories to share. Over the past forty years, face-to-face interactions between Europeans and Pakistanis have been minimal, primarily due to the wave of terrorism since 2001 and the influence of Talibanisation and emerging extremism.

Pakistan’s uniqueness lies in its geographical diversity: it boasts the Arabian Sea, towering mountains like K2, the stunning lakes of the Northern Areas, the Cholistan Desert, historical buildings, and ancient civilisations like Harappa and 'Mohenjo-Daro'. It is also home to rivers, canals, and agricultural land. The country experiences a wide range of climates. In one part, temperatures can reach 52 degrees, while another part might be blanketed in snow.

This geographical diversity is mirrored in its people. Despite the different cultures, languages, cuisines, and thought processes, we live in unity. Regrettably, the media often highlights negative news while overlooking the positive. The beauty, historical sites, hospitality, and quality of food often go unreported, leading to a skewed image of our country. Furthermore, our government invests minimally in promoting the nation’s soft image compared to Western countries.

Consequently, perceptions about Pakistan may be inaccurate for those who haven’t visited. Like any other country, Pakistan has its strengths and weaknesses. However, I assure you that you won’t find such a diverse and beautiful country with a rich and colourful culture and history anywhere else in the world. A visit to this country may change your perception.

Indeed, the diversity in Pakistan extends to the people’s physical attributes, work styles, and global interactions. Such diversity is not easily understood from afar, challenging preconceived notions. Even visitors from Europe, America, and other regions who have had the opportunity to visit Pakistan rarely get the chance to experience the rural areas. This lack of exposure often prevents them from grasping the true essence of the country. Therefore, to truly understand us and alter your perception, you need to explore and discover the country in its entirety.

The same diversity of people also exist. Different cultures, different, languages, different foods and different way of thinking. In spite of all diversity we are living in unity. Unfortunately whenever there is an incident of event happens, media highlights its bad news and good news are ignored. Media never highlight its beauty, historical places, hospitablity of people, quality of foods etc. Therefore, our bad image is dominaed on our good image. On the other hand our government hardly invest on the soft image of nation as western countries spend their money on it.

Therefore whatever people know about Pakistan if they havn't visited face to face might not be true, so their perception might be wrong. Each country has its strength and its weakness too. Pakistan has too. But I assure you that you have not seen such diverse and beaufitul country anywhere in the world with diverse and colorful culture and history. Your physical visit of this country may change your perception.
